Polyherbal formulations combine multiple plant ingredients to achieve synergistic therapeutic effects. Developing a stable and effective product requires careful planning at every stage.

1. Herb selection and standardisation

Choose plants with documented traditional use and published pharmacological data. Always work with authenticated plant material and, where possible, standardised extracts.

2. Extraction and compatibility

Different herbs may require different solvents or extraction methods. Compatibility studies help avoid precipitation, colour changes or loss of activity when ingredients are combined.

3. Formulation design

For topical products (creams and lotions), focus on emulsifier selection, viscosity and skin feel. For oral liquids such as syrups, attention must be given to taste masking, preservatives and microbial stability.

4. Evaluation

Typical tests include organoleptic evaluation, pH, viscosity, spreadability, extrudability, antimicrobial efficacy and accelerated stability studies.

A systematic approach reduces the risk of formulation failure and strengthens the scientific basis of the final product.
